This study tested whether an oak wood extract supplement called Robuvit® could help people recover faster after the flu. One group of recovering patients took the supplement (300 mg daily) along with standard care, while another group received standard care alone. After 3 weeks, the supplement group reported less weakness, better sleep, improved focus, and faster recovery after physical activity compared to the control group.
Understanding interventions that reduce post-viral fatigue and oxidative stress is relevant to ME/CFS research, as post-viral illness and impaired recovery are suspected pathological mechanisms in ME/CFS. This study provides preliminary data on a potential supplement that warrants further investigation in post-infectious fatigue states and possibly chronic fatigue syndrome.
This small registry study does not establish that Robuvit® is effective for ME/CFS itself—only for acute post-flu recovery. The lack of detailed methodology, blinding, and sample size limits causal inference; observed improvements could reflect placebo effect, spontaneous recovery, or confounding. The findings cannot be generalized beyond the specific 3-week post-influenza context studied.
